About Course

About this course

The first beginner course is designed for people (grown ups) who want a strong headstart to begin speaking Ndebele.

It’s aimed at learners who are determined to go the extra mile, to practice what they learn in real life conversations. I will ensure that they do this by giving speaking practice assignments and organising class presentations throughout the course.

We are taking a practical approach to Ndebele language learning with this course. Students will be kept on their toes, being asked to randomly spell words, guess some vocabulary and, figure out to create sentences.

Students will learn through songs, reading dialogues, and taking part in quizzes iduring lessons.

  • This course has a total of 12 lessons.
  • Each lesson is an hour long
  • Two lessons will be completed per week
  • Cost: $120

Objectives

I want to create and offer a series of lessons that my students (complete beginners) will grasp, forever remember, and confidently use. By the end of this beginner course, I want my student to:

  1. Engage in more than 10 useful Ndebele conversations with a Ndebele speaker, have evidence of that, and present their learning from this exercise
  2. Do class presentations for 5 or more items each time (introducing new sentences). This will require that the student asks for help from their Ndebele mentor.
  3. Learn 50 or more vocabulary items of common everyday items
  4. Know how to greet and hold a meaningful initial conversation (Unjani? Unjani uzbani? Kunjani khonangapho) – this lesson, they will do as a reading exercise first
  5. Know how to ask for things (Ngicela, ngiqhubela, lastly ngicela ungiqhubele)
  6. Learn the most common verbs and use them in first person (Ngiyabhala, ngiyabala, ngiyahlabela, )
  7. Learn the main parts of the body

Approach: My student will learn by doing, i.e participating in class, figuring things out, and speaking to people outside of class. I won’t be lecturing in this course. I will be leading them to acquire the language in a way that’s most natural to them.
